Not really a proper beta test, just giving it a few hours so we can confirm that it fixed a few bugs for specific people.

If you previously signed up for beta testing through Google Play, this new build should show up as an update within a few hours. Otherwise, you can get it:

a) Through Google Play. Sign up for that at:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.pleco.chinesesystem

(no more Google Group necessary thanks to a recent Play update) after which you should be able to get it right from there.

b) Directly from our website; APK at:

http://cdn.pleco.com/androidapps/plecodroid-150917-website.apk

Should be out officially tomorrow assuming we've actually fixed the things we think we have.

Changes:
  • Added human-checked Cantonese readings to CC-CEDICT, so it's now viewable + searchable in Cantonese. Note that this currently only works in the Play version, but will be available in non-Play ones as well as of the official release. (iOS users, we've already submitted a build to Apple with this same updated database, just waiting on approval)
  • Added a "None" TTS engine option for people who don't want to be bothered by TTS icons next to sentences.
  • Fixed some crashing / stability issues when switching between a lot of tabs, primarily on older versions of Android.
  • Fixed a nasty memory leak in the File Reader on some older devices.
  • Worked around a recently introduced bug in the "Multiling O" third-party keyboard that caused handwriting recognition to output every intermediate stage in drawing a character rather than just replacing it.
  • Fixed a bug that kept the text file reader from restoring document locations reliably in some cases.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Cantonese tone colors from appearing correctly in some situations (mainly on pronunciation rather than characters).
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes kept the "keep screen on" option from working reliably.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the undo button from working correctly in the handwriting input box in left-handed landscape mode.
  • Fixed a bug that caused audio genders to alternate unexpectedly when advancing with the reader through a document with audio auto-play enabled.
  • Fixed a bug that made the alternate "plecobundle.plc" manual bundle file installation method fail on devices with very buggy firmware.
  • Fixed a crashing bug when taking still images for OCR on some other devices with very buggy firmware.
Per CC-CEDICT's CC-BY-SA license, a mapping table of the Cantonese readings we added to CC-CEDICT is attached. (and this is just the tip of the iceberg for new Cantonese stuff :) )

[Typo]

Location: Sidebar > Import / Export > Export Cards > Card definitions

Current:
"Include custom flashard definitions in the export file."

Fixed:
"Include custom flashcard definitions in the export file."

I wanted to save the actual content of the Clip Reader to a file on my SD Memory Card, but I can only store in main memory and Google Drive. When I select "Last", I can see the folder of my SD Card I want to store in, but storing is impossible.

What about if you choose the Pleco SD card option (blue icon) in the sidebar instead of the Google one?

HW60

状元
When I try to store files from the sidebar menu, e.g. Backup Database, I can choose between Last, Google Drive, Local Storage, Downloads and Internal Storage. How can I change Google Drive to SD card?

So there's no "SD card" item there? Is "Internal Storage" actually your SD card? (in some cases it might be mis-labeled)

HW60

状元
Internal Storage is the tablet storage as displayed when I look via USB from my computer in card and tablet, plus 9 folders which I do not see via USB, but in Pleco when I tap on Internal Storage. Local Storage is the tablet too, without any additional folders. Downloads seems to show files which I deleted recently. I never used Google Drive, but Pleco displays 3 folders (free for me, marked, my folders).

The selection is independet of the settings in Miscellaneous / File Storage location. Pleco is installed in tablet.

So nothing's showing your SD card? To be honest Android file management is such a morass of fragmented awfulness at the moment that it's tough to know where the specific problem might be - are any third party file managers able to access files on your SD card successfully?

HW60

状元
Yes, with ES Datei Explorer from Google Play I can see the same files as via USB. The SD card is called extSDCard there. I use the SD card since I have the tablet, but never from Pleco before.

Got it, thanks. One more thing: if you go into Settings / Miscellaneous in Pleco and turn on the "force legacy file chooser" option, does your external SD card show up then?

Opening a clipboard history from Clip reader -> Clipboard history crashes pleco. Sent a couple of bug report.

Thanks - going to do a 3.2.21 soon with a few accumulated fixes, which we're very much hoping will be the last Android update before 3.3.

When I copy all my flashcards more than once a day, the filename to store the data proposed by Pleco is always the same, especially the time in the filename is the time of the first copy, independent of the "force legacy file chooser" option.

Must be an error in the string formatter - it's supposed to be year month day hour minute second.

HW60

状元
It is only year, month, day, hour, minute - no seconds, but now I cannot reproduce it. I had several flash-1510051154.txt files before.

I currently can't open and PDF or txt files in the reader. Not sure what what's changed though it might be Android M. I can view things from the clipboard though.
I'm using an nexus 5 BTW. Pleco is 3.2.20.
And I believe it was working with this version of pleco just a few days ago.

@mikelove I get an error message saying that the file cannot be opened.
Sorry looks like I posted this in the wrong thread accidentally. Should have been in the Pleco for Android 3.2.20
