A simple(?) way to add pronounciation to Pleco?

There are now at least three sources for Mandarin sound files:

(Use all of them only in accordance with their licenses)
- Wenlin sound files
- Oxford talking dictionary (unzip the audio jar file)

It would be nice if there was an update to Pleco for the following:
- Allow the selection of a directory containing the 3rd party audio
- Add a button to play the appropriate audio file(s) when the user selects some characters/pinyin and presses the button.

Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure that a "rigorous" sound database is already in the process of being recorded in-house by Pleco for inclusion in 2.0. I say "rigorous" because Mike said that even whole words were being recorded, not only syllables or zi4 or whatever you should call them. Should be really cool I guess :)

Check: http://www.pleco.com/pdpreview.html

I'm not sure where I read that whole words and not only zi4 were being recorded, I can't find the thread now. If I'm spreading untrue rumours I apologise in advance but I'm really quite sure I read it somewhere :D

Yes, we are adding whole words; quite a lot of them, in fact. So we'll be adding an audio feature to a future update that way. Reading individual audio files from a directory would be almost painfully slow on Palm (and none too quick on Pocket PC), so I'm afraid adding third-party audio isn't something we're likely to pursue.
