custom flashcards

Hi I'm just a few hours on Pleco, so forgive the naive question that follows...
I am looking at a way to create my own flashcards based on a series of words/ sentences in order to memorize some grammar points (sequence of words)
ex: i'd like to be able to have a flashcard testing my character knowledge
(in CHARACTER :wo zai nanjing xuexi).
Answer would then show the pinyin and the translation of the whole sentence.

Is this in any way feasible?
Many thanks in advance.

If I understand your question correctly, it is feasible. In fact, I'm doing the same thing with one of my flashcards.

Yes, certainly doable. Just use the "New" button in the Edit Lists screen and that will let you create a flashcard with whatever characters you want. But if you're going to create a lot of them I'd encourage you to back them up regularly - ideally to a text or Memo export so you'll have a copy that's completely separate from PlecoDict.

What he said.

I have lost every single one of my user dictionaries. After a while, they just get corrupted and the the linked flashcards how just error messages--all data is gone.

I've now got a setup in which I do a PB backup onto one or more of my backup drives every time I sync my Axim. Actually, I probably could stop because I don't feel like putting time into another user dict when it's just going to self-destruct in a few weeks or months.

I believe I'm the only one with this problem. I test computer products for a living, and I sorely stress any PDA I use.

FWIW, at this very moment we're hard at work on the custom dictionary system rewrite, so at whatever point we put out the first preview version it will almost certainly include a fix for this. But yes, we're not aware of anyone other than sfrrr who's having this level of trouble with custom dictionaries. (and correct me if I'm wrong, but during the brief period you were using Palm OS you didn't really have any problems like this either, right?)

Mike, I think you're right. But when I was using the LifeDrive for PD, I wasn't doing anything else with it except playing a couple of games (when really desperate). That Palm never was tested the way my Axim is every hour.

I'm looking forward to the new custom flashcard features. I was extremely reliant on custom flashcards until about the fourth corruption. And I continued to use it sporadically for months afterward. And Mike's customer service was fabulous.

And I wouldn't even consider giving up PD. It may well be the most useful and usable program on the PPC.

I advise you just to be extra careful of backing up the custom entries daily and I also suggest that you keep several versions (days) of your backups because it may happen that the most recent backup is corrupted too and you have to use a backup from, say, four days ago.
