Downloading files

Hi, I couldn't find this information on the site. I used to download files to my iPod. Now with the iPhone and new app. I look at File Manager and it tells me to use the URL: http://(null)50505
I wondered if (null) meant 192.168 etc. but I can't get it to work.
How do I do this (iPhone and computer are on the same network), or is Dropbox just as good? Haven't used it on the iPhone yet.

Null means that it can't calculate its local IP address - are you sure the iPhone is actually on WiFi?

Sorry, it appeared in a longer form later.
Actually, I suspect it's on cellular even though I'm at home with wifi. So at the moment I still can't get it, but will have to research these iPhone problems.

I've got it now, after turning off cellular data (not sure if that was necessary).
