Flashcard Formatting for Reader

In document settings, there's an option to format flashcards, which I assume intends to highlight the words within the document that match cards in the category you select. This doesn't work for me, but it's an awesome idea.

Speaking of awesome, the Text Annotations options are so cool! And they work flawlessly.

Yes - very odd. Are you sure your flashcards are actually there (in organize)? Does the [+] icon show up correctly when you select one of them?

Also, does “format history” work correctly? (Very similar code to “format flashcards”)

The + icon shows up (with no square, so it doesn't think I have the card already). I can add the card with it, but it doesn't give me any sort of notification about a duplicate card, which it is (I created a test category with the words 眼 and 脸). So now the card category has duplicates and the characters still don't highlight in the reader even after exiting and reloading.

I'm not sure if format history is working correctly for me. It highlights most characters for my lyrics document. I just now downloaded Ah Q and it seems to highlight a lot of specific words, but I'm not sure what the pattern is. For example, it seems to highlight every single 的, almost every single 是,and every single 一 (but not 二). From the name I assumed it highlights recent changes to the document, so I added the sentence, "我是一个很好的学生." It highlighted 是, 一, and 的. This doesn't change between "any time," "today," and "within X days."

Hmm… could be an issue with the indexes, but then it should be generating a new index entry for the duplicate card and that should show up.

Try selecting a word that’s *not* in flashcards and adding that - does that get highlighted? And I assume it doesn’t make any difference if you change colors?

History highlights words you’ve looked up in the reader, so that sounds like reasonable behavior for it actually. But it’s powered by the same system as flashcard formatting (just checking against a different list of words) so I’m not sure why one would work and the other wouldn’t.

Also, does it make any difference if you reboot your device? And is the + button also not changing correctly in regular dictionary definition screens? And with the history one, if you tap on a word that’s not marked and then exit the bubble, does that word become marked?

And I don’t suppose you’ve changed any of the search settings for flashcards in Manage Dictionaries, have you?

Found it!

Settings > Reader > Dictionary Order > Custom.

When I made my custom dictionary order, I didn't include Flashcards...

Whoops.

It all seems to be working fine now. To answer your question about tapping on a word with History Formatting turned on, it doesn't immediately highlight when I close the bubble. But when I exit the document and return, it's highlighted. Which is good enough for me.

Sorry for the confusion with my unnecessary custom dictionary order.

Great! Not a mistake on your part at all, it shouldn't be possible to turn on flashcard formatting and *not* have it search flashcards, but at least it's something easy to fix on our end.

History should actually be updating instantly - is this a very large document?
