Get it at http://www.pleco.com/pd10c.zip. This fixes a number of minor bugs, and two major ones which appear to have been responsible for almost all of the crashes reported to us so far: a bug which affects dictionaries consisting entirely of entries with very short headwords (like UniHan), and a bug which could cause some very very nasty memory leaks in certain cases (causing even PDA's with lots of free memory to behave as if they had very little of it).

Since this fixes the problem with the UniHan database, I've also re-posted that at http://www.pleco.com/unihan.zip.

After installing this updated PlecoDict application, it would be a very good idea to soft reset your Palm - that will clean up any memory leaks that may be lingering.

No bugs for me!

Thanks Mike

New version works fine and no crashes with the Unihan.
The Chinese tilde is present in DA mode and the navigator is behaving properly!

Thanks again
Paul

Overall, the program is terrific, but as someone with a growing mountain of flashcards that are hardly ever reviewed, I would like to see the Flashcard program jazzed up to make it much more appealing and fun to use.

It all seems to work, and it's great

My ABC paper dictionary sold on EBay the other day, unopened as it was from the day I installed Plecodict. With the introduction of the new HWR program and the Mathew and Karlgren numbers available from Unihan, I've eliminated a large part of my paper dictionary usage. It's really splendid to be able to grab a Chinese book, go sit in a Starbucks, and just use my Treo to read the characters (and then still be confused as all heck because my grammar, idioms and cultural knowledge are weak as a kitten).

Thanks again!

P.S. I'm still looking forward to the Four-Corner lookup in a future edition. There are still some characters that would be a lot faster to look up that way, and even the best HWR doesn't recognize everything.

Newer Version

1.0c is now available at http://www.pleco.com/pd10c.zip - this should be pretty much identical to 1.0.1. There are a few more bug fixes, but mainly we've done a couple of things in response to user requests: there's now the option to have a backspace button in the minimized handwriting recognizer, and there's also an option to prevent PlecoDict from automatically switching dictionaries when it can't find a match in the current one.

MakePlecoDict is finished too, BTW - we're doing a few more tests, but it should be ready with 1.0.1. We're going to hold off on the SD card version until after 1.0.1 has been out for a little while and we're confident that there are no more major bugs.

And thanks for the feedback, guys...

How do you use the numbers?

Mathews and Karlgren

David writes: "How do you use the numbers?"

I read a lot of ancient material, and Mathews sometimes has phrases and explanations not found in the ABC. Karlgren is of course invaluable for the really old material from before the Han.

Just Windows initially, I'm afraid - we don't have time to do a Mac port right now. But it should run perfectly happily in Virtual PC.
