quick question about the stroke order feature-- where is the stroke order information sourced from? is it based on a particular dictionary?

No, we licensed it from Hanwang Technology actually (same company the handwriting recognizer came from).

ok. i'm guessing you don't know how hanwang sourced the information? i find it difficult to find reliable, verifiable information for stroke order-- different books, websites, and people cite different ways of writing a character. i'm hoping to find some definitive work on the matter.

Not sure about that, no. To be honest, there's not really a universal standard for stroke order - lots of sources tend to disagree on it, and AFAIK none of the governmental Chinese-language-regulating bodies have put out an official standard for it.
