I still have a flashcard settings question after reading the manual and using the flashcards extensively. Can someone please explain how the "Freq. adjuxt: custom" setup works, in the setup screen (the screen title is "Rank Testing Settings"):

For example, while looking at this screen, if the first row reads:
1 Freq:4 Spacing:2 days

can someone please explain it something like this, though I doubt this is correct:

rank "1" cards will only appear 4 times over 2 days. In other words rank one cards will not appear 5 or more times if called upon within a two day period.

Those are actually two independent settings, which never take effect at the same time - the interface for each one looked kind of sparse so we combined them together, though in hindsight it might have been better to keep them separate. (and we might still fix that at some point)

Freq only means something relative to other Freq settings - basically it's the ratio of how often cards in a particular rank will appear relative to cards in other ranks. So for example if you set the Freq for rank 1 at 100 and for rank 2 at 50, cards in rank 1 will be twice as likely to appear as cards in rank 2. Freq is used in the Endless Loop and Fixed # modes when the "Freq adjust" option is enabled.

Spacing works in "Repetition spacing" mode, and lets you select the minimum number of days that will elapse between reviews of each card in a particular rank. So if the spacing for rank 1 is set at 3 days, when you review a card from rank 1 you won't see that particular card again for at least 3 days.
