Incoming iPad OS system features?

Hi,

I’ve been hoping the following system features will eventually make their way to Pleco at some point in 4.0…?) but I realise my usage of Pleco (mostly Reader in splitscreen mode for translating) probably doesn’t align with the majority of users. Here’s a wishlist, anyway – none of these is going to stop me using the app, obviously, but I do find their absence more and more conspicuous with each new OS release:
  • definitions pop-up in the reader on trackpad cursor hover (to check words without switching the active app to Pleco)
    • and maybe a dynamic cursor for text too?
  • multiple instances of the app (so I can have different texts in Pleco simultaneously ready to go in splitscreen alongside my writing app, plus one more in dictionary mode to go in popover)
  • option to share highlighted text directly to the share sheet (I copy text to the clipboard and then run a shortcut on it many times a day – would be nice to cut out a step)
  • automatically switch to/from night mode in reader along with system light/dark mode
(Also, I’m guessing you’re aware of this already, but on the iPad OS 15 Beta the Reader jumps back up to the top of a document any time you leave the app, which is currently the number 1 factor making me want to leave the Beta and go back to 14…)

Pointer support is in the works, we were mostly focused on it for Catalyst but as it happens iPad uses the same API for pointer gestures. But I’m not sure if it works when we’re not the active app.

Haven’t really looked at this one to be honest - I think on iOS you can do it with two windows but the same model object so it’s probably doable but not something we were planning for 4.0.so

Alresdy implemented for 4.0.

Sorry, is that not working correctly now? How so?

Yep, thanks. (Perils of beta OSes)

Hmm, on closer inspection it looks like the light/dark mode is switching automatically, but I have to leave and reopen the document in Reader for it to take effect.

Thanks for the updates on the others!

@magicdave Just to confirm, the scroll issue you're referring to on iPadOS 15 is when viewing web pages or Word/RTF documents, right? (want to make sure that we're thinking of the same bug) And it jumps up a bit but not all the way to the top unless you're already near the top?

(if it's some other issue then please let me know more details so we can make sure it's fixed)
