Flashcard Tests on an Entire Dictionary

Hi,

as I was scanning through one of the Tuttle Learner's dictionaries, I felt it may be great fun to be randomly tested on the vocabulary in a dictionary, without needing to add all of it to a Flashcards category. Might that be a logical addition to Flashcards? It shouldn't be an issue licensing-wise.

Thanks,

Shun

It kind of is a licensing issue because the vocabulary list is considered a valuable part of some dictionaries and not something we want to let people easily export in full; that being said, at least for Tuttle I believe the dictionary vocabulary was based on the HSK 2.0 (or maybe the original 1.0?) so you could probably review it pretty comprehensively if you imported an HSK list with it as the default dictionary and removed any cards that didn't link to it.

HSK comes close, but in my experience it misses many of the "obvious" words/expressions that are useful nevertheless. Couldn't one simply pick an installed dictionary in Flashcards under Cards from, without seeing it in the Organize Flashcards screen? Wouldn't that prevent users from exporting the dictionary, or is that impossible to keep separated technically?

Thanks!

Thinking about it some more, I agree it isn't the best way to learn new words—just for testing one's level for maybe a few minutes. For extending one's vocabulary, one needs plenty of context and examples of usage, which a random test can only provide through example sentences, at most.
