Greetings:

Sorry if this is question is covered elsewhere. Is it possible to preserve the flashcards and user created dictonary entries for the Pleco Dict if one changes to a new PDS and hotsync name, and if so how?

Thanks,

I assume you're referring to a new PDA... yes, it is indeed possible.

We don't recommend changing your HotSync name, and there's no need to do that if you're getting a new PDA - just delete or rename your Palm Desktop "Backup" folder (c:\program files\palm\(your username\Backup) and you can sync your new Palm with the same username without having to worry about any files from your old setup carrying over and mucking up thingson your new Palm.

As far as how to move over the flashcards, there are a couple of ways to do that. One option is to HotSync your old Palm, go into the aforementioned Backup folder and pull out the "PlecoDict Flashcard Database" and "PlecoDict User DB C-E" files - install those to your new Palm and your flashcards should be preserved. The other option is to use a utility like FileZ (http://www.nosleep.net/) to copy those databases directly from your old Palm's internal memory to an SD card and from there to your new Palm.

Greetings:

Thanks for that infomation. Will deleting or changing the name of the backup file and then hotsyncing the new PDA also transefr the entries in the user creater dictonary (USR) or do I need to do that is some other way as with Filez?

Thanks,

The user dictionary is in that "PlecoDict User DB C-E" file that the instructions tell you to copy along with the flashcards - as long as you back up and restore that file the USR entries should be preserved. There may be more than one file with that name (some ending in extra numbers) - make sure to copy all of them.
