Flashcards Simple Profile Set to Alternating

Hello Mike,

In the Flashcards Simple profile alternating between two different test types, is there a way to force Pleco to apply both test types to each card in the selected category? With a category of 55 cards, immediately after starting a test session, Pleco displays "1/55" as the card number instead of "1/110" (two test types per card, all mixed in random order). Screenshots of the config screen:

Is there already some way to make Pleco do an alternating random test without skipping any of the 110 possibilities? Redoing a test would sadly not do the trick since one would then get about 25% of repeated questions and still miss others.

Thanks,

Shun

Not something we currently do, no - we tend to think it's better to study different sides of a card at different times so that your memory isn't jogged by one of them to reduce the effectiveness of the other.

Would not be difficult to support this if there was demand for it, but we are being absolutely fanatical about flashcard options at the moment because we really don't want to have gone to the trouble of consigning the old system to 'legacy' and building a whole new one only to immediately have it get just as cluttered with seldom-used options as the old one was.

I can understand that we want to avoid complexity. I can also understand the idea that studying in both directions close together can be detrimental to memorization.

Right now, if I want to make sure to have studied all cards in both directions automatically, I just wouldn't be able to rely on the "Simple - Alternating" profile, for the simple reason that a few words will always have been skipped. I can continue doing Simple tests without alternating, of course, which queries me on all cards but forces me to switch the test direction after each session myself. If one could somehow automate that regular switching between test types, I would be happy, as well. (with, say 70 words, first English-Chinese, then Chinese-English, there is usually enough time in between tests on the same card)

Thanks,

Shun
