Help me! What is the best way to study Flash Cards?

I have a basic goal of learning a set of 800 characters and their tones, that I have downloaded onto my PDA, within the next three months. Besides these 800 I will also be learning other characters from Chinese courses that I will be taking at a Taiwanese Univesity. Could you please help me set up the format on my Plecodict to do this. I really do not understand how to use the advanced settings, statistics, manange flashcards etc Thanks for your time and help.

I like to control the flashcards manually, study fifty or so non-memorized cards each day and not advance a card until I get it right two or three times in a row. See below for how to set it up for that.
