Magnify characters difficulty

I seem to remember this came up once before, but I can't remember what the solution was. I've just loaded the dictionary onto a new Palm Tungsten E and the magnify characters function won't work (yes, the box is checked in options).

Do I vaguely remember that this is something to do with the fonts, that I've got all three sizes loaded and need to delete at least one of them? And if so, how; or what is the actual solution?

At this particular moment magnify characters doesn't work on OS 5, basically because of a problem with the way we designed our OS 5 font system (which was several times more complicated than on previous Palm OS releases).

However, we've brought over some new code from PlecoDict that will fix this, so as of Friday (I think) the new 2.1 public beta version will include support for magnifying characters on OS 5 devices. It's already working beautifully on a couple of machines here, and just needs a little more testing/tweaking before we make it publicly available. We'll send out an announcement e-mail when we release it.

So there's nothing wrong with your configuration, the feature just isn't supported yet.

Thanks for that.

I must say that seeing the program on the Tungsten E is a revelation. I thought it was pretty good on the M105, but on a finer screen, and using a processor with a bit of muscle, it really is impressively quick and accurate. With the better screen the 'magnify characters' function will just occasionally be useful for showing characters to other people.

It's the new dictionary I'm looking forward to...

I noticed that before I installed the magnify feature, I could take a Chinese word from the definition part of a word that I had looked up, highlight this new word and then have it look that word up.

I don't seem to be able to do this with the same ease as now highlighting the word will only magnify it. I guess I could try and uninstall this feature as it is not that important to me.

Am I missing something?

I noticed exactly the same problem this evening. It is no longer possible to highlight characters within a definition. Or, rather, it is possible to highlight them by dragging across them, but they don't stay highlighted.

Yes, I think someone already mentioned this in another posting - we're working to correct the problem, in the meantime if you disable "magnify characters..." in the options screen that should restore normal highlighting.

In another post I said the zoom was working in OS 5. I realise now that I am using the 2.1b2 version which explains it. Anyway, you should know that it is working great. And as someone else said, what a difference a new Palm makes! I was used to the greeny grey low res Visor screen and its painfully slow speed. Now, instant response and beautifully clear fonts etc.
