Here's something weird. Sorry if it's already been mentioned.
1. Start handwriting a character you want to look up.
2. Switch to another application (I do that when I don't remember part of the character I have come across while reading a web page, etc.).
3. Switch back to Pleco to finish writing your char. (What you have written up to now has disappeared, so you have to start from scratch. It shouldn't be the case, imho).
4. While writing your char, you make a mistake, so you press the "back" arrow. No you have two chars on your screen, as your first attempt has just reappeared.
If it's any use, I have version 2.3.8 on a Samsung Note with Android 2.3.6
