PPC PlecoDict and Chinese input programs--offtrack yidianr

Anyone know if there are known conflicts between PlecoDict for the 2003 SE PPC and any of the several Chinese input programs. I've used Mobem's Chinese Star (name?) for years, but am fed up with it, it's lack of updates and the abysmal--no, nonexistent--support. Since the Website hasn't been upgraded in a few years, I've concluded that they are, essentially, dead.

However, it's really hard living without Chinese input. I'm going to test a bunch of programs, but I'd like to know which ones to avoid.

It turns out that d'ear IME prevents PPC PlecoDict from displaying search results at all properly--I installed it and i couldn't select a definition from the list of results, couldn't get anything but a list of single line entries. Uninstalled d'ear and I immediately got my PlecoDict back.

That's odd... I just checked this on an x50v here (trying to track down a problem similar to the one you're describing but not related to the d'ear IME) and we had a completely different problem; when the IME opened PlecoDict would collapse to a tiny area at the top of the screen. Perhaps this changed in the (about-to-be-released) Beta 2...

Hmmm. Seeing PlecoDict was never a problem for me with d'Ear. Using it was.

On to the next experiment in Chinese input

I found what works on my Axim x50v--Monster Chinese SIP from Mactiontech. (I think both Handango and PocketGear have it.) This is a two year old program, but it works beautifully for me, doesn't eat up much program memory, and, so far, has zero problems with PD. (I have probably just jinxed myself. The next time I turn on my PPC, everything's going to crash, freeze or corrupt itself.)

I'm not sure how well the combo would do without the 128 meg memory update I got from PPCTechs.

Here's a great chinese 国产输入法 for inputting chinese text and english. I use it with pleco without any problems. Once you get the knack of how to use it, it's pretty much hard to beat. All my chinese friends with PDA's prefer it.

Well in theory all you need is a Chinese font file (like the SimSun font which we include with PlecoDict) - if you just install that to the \Windows\Fonts folder and select it as the text font in Word or another text editor you should be able to view Chinese that way.

You can also use a feature called Font Linking to add Chinese support to fonts that don't normally include Chinese characters (like Tahoma) - do a Google search for windows ce font linking (Google Groups has a bunch of messages on it, I think) and you should find instructions there.

Chinese IME for German WM 5

Hi!

Want to bring up this topic again ...

Unfortunately Monster Chinese 5 does not work on German WM 5. Did anybody really try that. I was told by their support that it does not work and also the webpage tells that but I did not try ...

Does anybody know if the old Monster Chinese versions worked on German OSes? Is it worth to wait for an update by Mactiontech or go for CE-Star?

Can I use CE-Star on my german OS?

regards
Daniel
