Searching for the Umlaut

Alright, so I know how to make an umlaut with the keyboard, but I can't seem to get Pleco to recognize it. For example, if I'm trying to look up the word "l?", I either get no results, or a "lu" without the umlaut. Am I just inputing it wrong? How can I get Pleco to recognize it? Thanks!

Type 'v' instead - we use that in place of the umlaut because umlauts can cause problems with some Chinese language OS hacks.
