Suggestion for Feature: Word-of-the-day Today Screen plugin

Mike,

Have you considered a today screen plug-in which functions as a word-of-the-day?

It would display the definition, hanzi, and or pinyin (as configured by the user) on the today screen. I think the word selection should come from the flashcards that are selected to be reviewed. The user can choose which level or flags governs the word choice. The user could also choose a static word to display (perhaps one they are having particular trouble remembering) or could select a 'next' for another word.

What do you think?

That's actually trickier than you might think. The big problem is that Today plugins don't seem to get along well with databases stored on an SD or CF card - they can cause crashes and other quirky system behavior. It's certainly possible to work around these issues, the plugin really only needs to access the databases for a few miliseconds per day, but it would take a lot of work to get this running smoothly, and I don't know if if the benefits justify it, especially not when it would be so easy to implement a word-of-the-day that worked within the PlecoDict interface.

Thanks for your response. Your right. I wouldn't have thought it would be so difficult.

Perhaps one within the PlecoDict interface would be good as you suggest.
