We announced it on social media, didn't announce it by email because we're currently redoing our mailing list server.
Basically, a bunch of bots were spamming the signup form with legitimate emails and getting our click-to-confirm messages reported as spam, and we didn't notice this was happening until we got an account cancellation threat email from our email sending service.
So now we have to wait a bit for our spam rate to drop back to a normal level before we can send any more list emails (since every email inevitably produces some % of people reporting it as spam and right now that might be enough to push us over the line and get our account banned), and also add some new measures to prevent further bot sign-ups.
