On the older (Palm) version of Pleco there used to be an arrow button in the dictionary, so when you search with pinyin it would send the characters from the current entry to search bar. Does the new version have this or something similar? (I am using 3.2.3)

Yes, long-press a result in the list and you should see a "Search" option which will replace the Pinyin search input with a character one.
