3.0.0 Bug Report / Feedback Thread

李定 - that's an interesting one; does it help matters if you go into Settings / Languages + Text and switch to one of the system STHeiTi fonts?

I tried all five fonts that are installed in my app (XinGothic SC, STHeiTi SC, STHeiTi TC, FZKaiTi, FZShuSong) but the issue still remains.

The problem seems to only happen on the first row of characters being displayed. See attached example of a nine-character dictionary entry where the first row gets cut off but the second and third rows wrap properly.

Bendy-Ren - we've had another report of that session saving bug; it seems like the session isn't actually being marked as completed before the screen reloads. Very odd...

The grayscale tone color issue sounds like it might relate to the popup reader not being dismissed correctly (since it turns everything in the background gray, or at least it's supposed to) - had you maybe just had the popup reader open when you revealed the whole card?

李定 - looks like possibly an issue with the way the system is breaking words too long to fit on one line; thanks.

I have serious problems when trying to delete or create flashcards. The bottom toolbar just does not change when I tap edit. Also, when I have just searched for something in the dictionaries and then go to the flashcards, the bottom toolbar does not go back to the one giving me the option to create flashcards, it's stuck on the toolbar with the pointers and copy to clipboard function on. If I want to create or edit flashcards, I need to close pleco, double tap to close the app completely and then re-open it.
Frankly speaking, this is not exactly user friendly - what do I have to do to get the toolbar I need?? It's driving me bonkers! I am all for change and new features, but not when the usability suffers.

Ive run into the same problem with the flashcard session. In addition. When I am in the flashcard new test screen and then close the app. When I restart Pleco, it brings me back to that screen, but the Profile listed is "?" if I do click on begin test it seems to be what was previously selected.

Manou - OS version / hardware model? We've had one other report of this so far - seems to be thankfully rare - but if we get some more information from you hopefully we can get to the bottom of it and supply a workaround (or at the very least get it fixed in the next update).

Also, have you enabled iCloud sync? If so, disable that for now.

yoose - which problem? Manou's or 李定's?

Here are screenshots:
I cannot create new flashcards without having to shut the app completely down:

I can't move or delete flashcards without having to shut completely down:

The problem persists whether iCloud is disabled or enabled - what can I do to get the basic functionality back I had before???
I am a student and have spent quite a bit of money on Pleco over the last two years, I really need the flashcard module to function (as you can see, I have quite a lot) as it did before.
Really progress for the sake of progress is meaningless when the functionality suffers.
What can I do to get the bottom toolbar back without constantly having to shut down the app??

(sorry, had to rewrite my reply because the old one was asking the wrong questions)

I tried to reproduce this on a 6.1 iPad here and couldn't - could you be more specific about the exact steps you're going through when you start up (what you're doing in the dictionary screen and at what point you're switching to the organize cards screen) to bring about this persistent popup toolbar error?

Also, with the more general card creation bug: does that happen even the popup toolbar isn't visible? Do the Cards/Categories options still appear at the top of the screen when you tap Edit?

The toolbar is initially accessible, the problem happens each time after I added a new flashcard or edited an existing one copying/pasting something from a dictionary. It also happens whenever I go from the flashcards to search something in the dictionaries. I've done the rebooting, closing, etc. several times, the problem still persists. Without closing the app down by double tapping it, I can't get rid of the popup reader - thus can't access the toolbar.
What can I do to get the functionality back? As I said, I am a student and it is vital for me that the flashcards work.

OK, I managed to reproduce the toolbar problem; that seems to be a bug with the selection toolbar failing to dismiss when you exit that screen if the popup bubble isn't visible. To fix this, tap anywhere on the screen outside of that toolbar to hide the toolbar before you switch into Organize. If you forget to do that, just go back into your previous screen and tap somewhere to get rid of the toolbar; you can then switch back into Organize and it should stay gone.

I noticed this small bug: Select some text in a dictionary entry to bring up the popup, switch to another app, copy a few Characters of Hanzi, switch back to Pleco. I have Pleco set to search for the clipboard contents (love that feature!) but in this case it searches without dismissing the popup or popup toolbars, leaving the app in a weird state. A couple of times I have found it hard to get rid of the toolbars, but usually it fixes itself within a few taps.

Thanks - popup dismissal is a chronic problem for us, honestly; very tricky to overlay the system navigation bar with anything without having to go up to a level of the view hierarchy that's very sticky / hard to manage.

Those apps don't have deep navigational hierarchies - in Safari you never drill down or need to back up a level from anything. We do have such a hierarchy, and the standard behavior from iOS 7 onward is that a swipe gesture is how you go back in that sort of hierarchy.

I may have been using the popup reader at some point during that session, but I don't think I had it open directly before hitting reveal... Also, calling up the popup reader does not typically turn things greyscale during a flashcard test (at least for me) — only when I'm in the dictionary

In that case, I still wish there could be a way to easy go and back between items in search history without using the sidebar.

How replacing the up and down buttons near the search box with back and forward buttons? I don't think the up and down buttons are needed as one can easily point to the entry with one's finger.

I'd also prefer that the "+" flashcard button be added to the iPhone portrait view. The search box can be much narrower than it is now. There aren't too many words that are long enough to require that big of a search box, and even if a long word is partially hidden in the search box, it doesn't affect usability that much.

The up/down buttons already do what you are asking for- they switch between history items (or search results). You can also use the 'back' button to go back to the history item list, all without using the sidebar.

The up and down only moves between entries in the search result.

As for "back button", there is no back button in the general case under dictionary view. You might be referring to one under a special case. Can you provide a screenshot to show which one you are referring to?

I was referring to viewing an entry from the history screen, which I thought was what you were talking about.

There is always a back button when viewing a dictionary entry, as far as I can see, to take you back to the history list/search results. The up/down buttons move between search results, which is very useful for quickly stepping through the entries of a few results.

Are you saying that you would like to be able to access previously viewed dictionary entries, possibly from previous searches, without going via the History screen? If so, I think the current way of doing things is much clearer.

Are you talking about the iPhone version?

Given the shortage of screen space on the phone, I think these buttons can be omitted. Tapping on the search result directly would be just as easy.

Why is the current way clearer?

Under the current 3.0 UI, going back to the last entry takes 3 taps: (1) bring up sidebar, (2) open history, (3) tap on entry. If there were a back button, it would just take one tap.

sorry, forgot to mention that it is bendy-ren's problem.

i do have iCloud sync enabled. the bug is not much of an issue for me I just wanted to let you know about it. I would rather keep iCloud sync enabled, unless there are other problems with it that is preventing it from working correctly.
