People may call me sceptic, but I had more faith that Pleco 4.0 would eventually see the light of day than that Henry Kissinger would actually die. And now those things happening one in the wake of the other. You may see coincidences, but I see patterns folks, that's what I always say.

Yeah, in retrospect "Pleco 4.0 will not be released as long as Henry Kissinger is alive" would have been an accurate prediction that told everyone absolutely nothing.

Given that Apple has mostly stopped doing giant OS updates where they blow up everything I'm optimistic that we won't have cause to discontinue it for a long time.

Is there any specific parts of the software that you want us to focus on while testing?
There'll be an email accompanying the release with a lot more on that.

I’m interested, but could you explain how that works? Will it be a separate app? I’d be happy to contribute, but will I still have access to the current version (in case a bug prevents me from doing what I need)? Thanks!

Yes, basically you download the new version of the regular Pleco app, it sticks your old data in a shared container as it upgrades, then you install the "Legacy" app - also in beta testing - and that app brings in the old data and carries on exactly like the old app.

First thing I've noticed & probably I'm in a minority of people that care, based on previous feedback, is that the single-syllable Pleco Cantonese Audio (Male/Female) is not available in 4.0? I use it quite a lot - would be very happy if it could be maintained.

Edit: Actually, it looks like it is there - just not sure how to get it into headword audio just yet -- I'll keep digging.

Pleco v3.99.1.7 is not working on my iPad mini 4 running iOS15.8. The compatibility section in TestFlight says that it "Requires iOS 16.6 or later" (which I cannot update). Just letting you know since I saw that in mail you mention that it only requires IOS v14.0 or later. Really looking forward to see the new update ! Thanks

It should use it for single-character words if it's downloaded. Turn on 'breakdown recordings if no exact match' to use it in preference to TTS for multi-character words.

Very sorry, that was several years ago - I'm afraid the requirement is 16 now, it would unfortunately be quite challenging for us to continue supporting iOS 15.
